On October 9, 2006 Indianapolis Public Schools held their first Hall of Fame ceremony. The luncheon was held at the Radisson Hotel City Center to honor twelve famous graduates of IPS and to raise money for Indianapolis area schools. The cost of $75.00 per person and $1000.00 for a table of ten at this fundraiser helped to raise around $80,000. Sen. Richard Lugar
served as the keynote speaker. Among the inductees were Representative Julia Carson, Vivica Fox, George McGinnis, and David Letterman. The Indianapolis Public Schools Education Foundation hopes that by inducting the alumni into the Hall of Fame students will be motivated to follow in their footsteps and the general public will be made aware of the famous people that graduated from IPS.
